John Lennon's name is associated with the British band the Beatles. He was its lead singer, co-founder and co-songwriter, as well as a peace activist and an artist. His songwriting cooperation with his bandmate Sir Paul McCartney has greatly contributed music.
 
Lennon's music has become classics. He was ranked the eight on the list of the \(100\) Greatest Britons.

John Lennon was born in \(1940\). His parents separated when he was four and he ended up living with his aunt. His mother remarried later, but still visited often. It was her who bought John his first guitar and taught him to play piano. The tragic death of his mother deeply affected him. During his adolescence John was a troublemaker and a prankster. He dropped out of college and decided to make a career as a musician.
He was inspired by Elvis Presley and Chuck Berry to form his own band, the Quarrymen. Later he met Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr (Richard Starkey) and together they made up the Beatles. The band became extremely successful, the musicians pushed the boundaries of genres and influenced pop and rock music greatly. 
  
After the Beatles John Lennon started his solo career. Also he released several albums with his wife Yoko Ono. He remains of the most popular musicians of the \(XX\) century. John Lennon was shot by a deranged man and died at the age of \(40\).
