Рис. \(1\). London
London is the heart of Britain, it's political and cultural centre. It's large, it's population is almost \(9\) million.
There are four parts of the city: the City of London, the West End and the East End and Westminster. They are pretty contrasting and each of them is interesting in its own way. The City contains the historic centre and the central business district of London. Thousands of people go there to work. Thousands of tourists go there to admire the famous London sights — St Paul's Cathedral, Monument to the Great Fire of London, the Tower and others.
Westminster is a part of the city associated with the British government, because there are Houses of Parliament and \(10\) Downing Street. Westminster Abbey is the well-known landmark there. A lot of incredible writers are buried in the Poets' corner — Dickens, Chaucer, Irving, Hardy. Buckingham Palace, the Queen's residence, is also there.
Lots of the city's major tourist attractions, theatres, shops, businesses are in the West End. It's a pretty posh part of the city. The East End was the most dangerous and the poorest part of the capital in the past. Now the district is changing rapidly as more and more offices and apartments are being built.
Trafalgar Square is located in the centre of London.
The National Gallery, one of the most famous museums, is in the north of Trafalgar Square.
The Gallery exhibits extensive collections of various European schools of art. The square is popular with visitors who come to relax, watch pavement artists, or eat their lunch and feed the pigeons.
