— Hey, Jack! What is your first association with Great Britain?

— I guess it's wet climate. Pouring rain all the time and all that.

— Well, it's raining often, but not more frequently than in other countries in Europe. It's Gulf Stream — warm and swift current — that makes all the difference. The climate is humid and mild, which is very good for vegetation.

— So that's the reason! Good to know. There are lots of green in the UK. Brits seem to love flowers.

 

— Indeed, and some flowers are symbols of the countries of the United Kingdom.

— Oh, really?

— Yes. It's the thistle for Scotland and the rose for England.

— What about Ireland and Wales? Do they have their emblems too?

— Sure. It's the shamrock for Ireland and the daffodil for Wales.

— Seems like nature in Britain is rich and beautiful. What about mountains? Are there any?

— Britain is not very mountainous country. The tallest mountain in Britain is Ben Nevis in Scotland. It's \(1345\) metres high.

— Are there other natural attractions in the UK?

— Yes. Have you heard about Loch Ness, the lake?

— Sure! The one where the monster lives?

— Well, the monster doesn't really exist, it's only an old legend. But hundreds of people still believe it.
